Having a flexible, healthy body. I used to be able to wrap my legs around my neck and cross my feet behind my neck. Seriously. As a teenager.

My back injury means I will never be that way again regardless.

Bad to the Bone!

So I was perusing my blog today and saw nothing but text for the last few posts...I'm all about lovin the written word, but I loves me some multi-media...where's the photos, where's the vids, where's the tunes? So, without further, whatever....here's a photo blog I call 'Bad to the Bone'! It includes pics of Hailey and her friend Faith, a rare photo of Michael WITHOUT facial hair, pics of his girlfriend Alyssa (which I totally snagged from her myspace but I know she won't mind), some pics of the fur babies and a couple of lame nature pics...and a little surprise at the bottom...

Miss Hailey drivin the car! She got her license yesterday!

Yeah! We sat in that stinky old DMV for 4 hours before she finally hit the road with Miz Officer Thang and she passed with flying colors! I tell ya it was a very strange feeling seeing MY car pulling into the DMV parking lot knowing that my little girl was behind the wheel and I wasn't in the car with her!

She's just a baby damnit!

RAWHIIIIIIIIIIIDE!!!"

I've had a ~~couple of~~ more than a few people ask me in different ways, "Blog? Why?"

After thinking a bit, I decided it was maybe for people like my friend,

Edith, a woman I've known since high school. She was one of my best pals. She was one of we girls who:

Smoked.

Cut class in Sonya's Spyder convertible.

Drank.

Told great big whoppers to parents.

These days, Edith belongs to a motorcycle gang named "The Ugly Campers." It's a bunch of hefty old farts on Harleys who take off in a blaze on weekends to wreak havoc on the countryside of Arizona. (!) I can get together with Edith and it's like no time has passed at all; we're still those same girls we were all those years ago. She told me in an e-mail that reading what I write here is like sitting down and chatting over coffee. Here's to you, DeBell, my old pal. (Also, Edith has this under-cknowledged gift of writing and a superior crafting talent. I'm sooo trying to talk her in to starting a blog. She is a fabric hoarder and a gifted seamstress who has a SECRET PROJECT in mind She needs to get out there. Ahem).

Or.

Maybe I blog for my dear garden club members, who all helped me get through an almost unspeakable tragedy and were a wealth of knowledge, information, fellowship, empathy and good humor. Friendships endure to this day.

Or.

Maybe for my children.

Ah.

Yes.

Maybe them, especially.

To my Fellow Boomers: We didn't grow up with this....this innernets stuff....... This is the New World we'll eventually be leaving behind. You know, you could a more a part of it.

Write stuff down.

Express opinions.

Take a stand.

Unload.

Risk saying stupid stuff.

Be honest.

Be vulnerable.

Be effing humble.

Apologise, even.

It could sail aound the web forever.

Do it, Booms.....for all of us.

Vegetarian Taco Burger

This is by no means haute cuisine, but boy oh boy, is it delicious. I give all the credit of this ingenius creation to B. If he ever decides to change careers, Taco Bell would be foolish not to bring him aboard as a food conceptor. That boy comes up with some excellent gourmet junkfood. A taco and a burger in one. What's not to love right? Here's how it works... spread some refried beans on both ends of a toasted hamburger bun. My taco "meat" was chopped baby bellas, onions and corn seasoned with cumin and chile powder. Now layer "meat", cheddar cheese, tomatoes, avocado slivers and a fried corn tortilla. Top with your bean slathered bun and serve with plenty of salsa and Tapatio. Spicy, crunchy, creamy, cheesy flavor explosion!

Tuesday things, house things

Things that are good concerning our housing situation:

- We have had 3 showings in the past week.

- All have had good feedback.

- Tonight's is resulting in a contract to be submitted by 10 AM tomorrow morning.

Things that are not so good concerning our housing situation:

- The folks who are writing a contract tonight/tomorrow morning don't want to close on the house until late September. We need to be moved in mid August.

Things that could make for an interesting twist:

- Our agent is going to contact the agent who showed the house Sunday, whose clients were seeking pre-approval to see if they might also be ready to make an offer.

Tuesday Things

Loathing:

An Employment Insurance process that is way too clunky and DOES NOT accommodate teachers' very well. (For example, I'm still employed by the school district, but not currently working for them 'cause, well, it's summer holidays! But the system really doesn't have a space for that. And they're really keen on you filing within 4 weeks of your last day of work, but for me that would mean losing out on top-up since my employer doesn't require me to file until the babe is born since, as mentioned, they know I'm still employed by them. I'm going to go downtown tomorrow and talk to a real person about it, though I'm not confident: last time they told me that that, as a teacher, I only work 5 1/2 hrs a day because that's what my classroom hours are, so that's what I record; this is important info because your EI amounts are based on previously worked hours and salary. Fortunately, I got better information from both my union and my employer: Service Canada recognizes full time teachers as working 9.1 hours a day. Thank goodness! Because those 3 hours a night spent marking don't count???)
Late-stage pregnancy sausage-toes.
Insomnia. (Yes, still.)
Inconsistent tension when knitting. (I think I'll need to re-start my project. Bummer.

Loving:

Living in a country where I get paid to stay home and look after my baby for 50 weeks after s/he is born.
Being a part of a union that will top up that aforementioned paycheque to a percentage of my regular salary for some of those weeks after s/he is born.
That I'm having a little baby next month (or so!) and the sausage-toes will go away and so will the
Insomnia - though I'll be awake more than ever, at least I know I'll start sleeping as soon as my head hits that pillow!
Making things with my hands again.
Friends and family who visit.
