Show us the loveliest flower in your garden.
Submitted by Allio's blog.
I think my Bleeding Heart plant is very cool looking. This photo was taken over a month ago, so the whole plant is about double this size (it dies back to nothing and re-grows each Spring - another bit of coolness).
Bleeding Heart (noun): 1. any of several dicentras, esp. a common garden perennial (Dicentra spectabilis) with racemes of drooping, deep-pink, heart-shaped flowers
2. a person regarded as too sentimental or too liberal in dealing with social problems
Maybe it's that I feel a kinship with this plant...? :-)
Show us your mother.
My mother is the gorgeous one on the right, and my daughter is the gorgeous one on the left - they're beautiful both inside and out... I am one lucky chick!
Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there! (and as my friend Lynn said this morning, to all the fathers who made us that way - LOL!)
Show us something you don't understand.
OK - here's the beautiful Beau Rivage casino in Biloxi, MS - rebuilt to surpass its former glory within a few short months after Hurricane Katrina. Total Biloxi casino revenues during the month of December 2007 were over $78,000,000.
Conversely, here's a local beachfront business literally a few lots down the street, as it looks 2-1/2 years after Katrina.
Here's a family's home along that same street - someone grew up here, lived their lives here. Annual per capita personal income in Mississippi was about $26,000 in 2006, the lowest of any state in the US (as it was pre-Katrina as well).
And here's what the Mississippi and Federal governments are doing about it.
Maybe I do understand this after all... (hint: $$$$)
But here's what you and I can do to help!
Show us a souvenir from a memorable trip.
I love the Italian stovetop coffee maker Al's cousin Francesca gave us when we were in Italy in December 2005. We use it every weekend morning, along with the über-cute cappuccino mugs his 2nd cousin Pena gave us (because we admired a set Maria had). Our system is that Al gets the blue "Uffa" mug (blue for boys, so I don't have to think too hard), and I get the green "Ciao" mug. That way we know whose has the sugar in it (one guess whose that would be). There are 4 other mugs in the set, too, all with funny 3D faces and little Italian sayings inside. And another beauty of the coffee maker is that it can also come backpacking with us ... espresso on the trail can't be beat :-)
The VoxHunt question asked about a memorable trip, which that truly was... Christmas with the huge extended family in a Calabrian mountaintop village, New Year's Eve in downtown Rome... food food food... someday maybe I'll write about it.
Show us a gadget you can't live without.
Well, I don't know about "can't live without", because I just got it this week, but so far I love it...
Here's my new little buddy coming out from under the sofa, which hasn't seen a vacuum for quite some time :-)
I love the fact that I can be doing other things around the house (or office) while he takes care of the maintenance cleaning.
Yes, even though it's a woman's voice which says things like "clean my brushes", I think it's a little guy. I'm not sure why, and Sandra already named him Rosie (a la Jetsons), but to me it's more natural to say "Good Boy!" when he finds his way back to his charger, or decides to spend extra time cleaning under the bed.
I'm officially a Fan of Roomba.
Show us where you go to read the latest headlines.
As tech-minded as I am, for news I still prefer the morning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that's delivered to my house. If I have to know what's going on in the world, I'd rather it be on my own terms, in my own time, not flashing at me whether I want to know or not. Then if I want to know more about something, I google it.
Show us a mess.
Oh dear, this is way too easy :-\
Mess at work.... Mess at home
I'm not particularly proud of this, I would love to have neat tidy workspaces, it just seems there's too much paper and stuff. I read recently that the reason we feel that we don't have enough hours in the day is that there are too many decisions to make in the current world (e.g. do this or do that with this item, pitch it or act on it or sell it or give it away or keep it for future use). I'm trying to be more draconian about this. Nik is really good at that; actually the only reason the books in pic #3 are in piles instead of spread all over the floor is because she worked on this space over Christmas break and threw away a garbage bag full of junk, took more to the Salvie, and eBayed some other stuff.

I love love love my little Civic Hybrid. It's got over 97,000 miles on it now, but still runs great . . . all the way past the gas stations :-)
I just got it back from the body shop yesterday, after having been rear-ended (hard) by a guy in an SUV who thought green meant "go" whether there were other cars there or not :-/ But all's well now, and my neck is nearly better too! I'm so happy to have my zippy little car back after 3 weeks of driving that slushy Pontiac Sunbird (automatic) they gave me.
